C.S.I. Math and Math Mystery Activities – Fun Math Worksheets & Activities
If you are looking for activities to engage your reluctant math learners, then CSI math activities and math mysteries/stories could be a good option for you. They are great for reinforcing math concepts throughout the year, to leave for a substitute, or just to do as a fun Friday activity. Why not try my free CSI zoo math activity and see if it works for your students. Or else take a look at one of the skills-based one if you are reviewing a particular area of math. With CSI math and math stories, your students can be detectives solving crimes, an adventurer in Egypt, or helping save the kingdom of Camelot.
If you just want to try out CSI math activities to see if your students enjoy them then this is the perfect activity to use. In this activity, Pete the zookeeper is getting stressed out because one of the animals keeps escaping during the night and wreaking havoc at the zoo. In this 10-20min activity, your students will use their math knowledge to help Pete discover what animal is escaping. It works great for earlier finishers – or just to have as a fun (yet educational) activity when you have a spare 20mins to fill.
CSI Math Activity – Who Committed the Crime Use Math to find out!
Grades: 4-8
Great start of year math activity where students have to use their math skills to eliminate suspects so they can find out who committed the crime (a robbery).
Four clues are given to the students and each clue (worksheet) allows them to eliminate 1-2 suspects.
Most students should be able to complete this in about 40mins (give or take 10mins).
CSI Math Activity: Alien Mystery Edition
Want something with an out-of-this-world appeal? Then this alien version of CSI math is for you. Students have to use their math skills to eliminate alien suspects so they can save the world and find out which alien stole the ray gun!
Four clues are given to the students and each clue (worksheet) allows them to eliminate 1-2 suspects.
Egyptian Math Mystery Story: Use Math to defeat the Mummy and get the Treasure!
This one is not done in the typical CSI math style, but instead in a math story/escape room style. Your students will love this as it lets them use their math knowledge (multiplication, basic algebra, odds/evens) in an Egyptian maths adventure where they need to break the curse, defeat the mummy and get the treasure.
The first four math activities cover a range of math concepts and are great to use as reinforces of general math topics throughout the year. The next three math worksheets/activities focus more on specific areas of math and are great for use when you want to concentrate on one particular area of mathematics.
Pre-algebra CSI math activity – King Arthur: Who stole Excalibur? Use math to find out!

Five clues have been found throughout the kingdom. Give these clues to your students and each clue (worksheet) will allow them to eliminate 1-2 suspects.
Just like the title suggests, this activity is like the other CSI activities, but with a focus on measurement. Students have to use their math skills to eliminate suspects so they can find out who committed the crime (a robbery).
Fractions, Decimals, and Percentages activity: CSI Math – Gnome Quest.
The Gnome Kingdom needs your help! The magic tree which protects the kingdom is dying, only the one true hero can save it. But who is this hero? Your help is needed to guide the gnomes through a series of trials until you have found out who the one true hero is.
The main activity starts with a short story to hook the students into the math task. They then have to solve a series of five math clues to find out which one of the gnomes is the true hero who can save the kingdom. The math clues focus on fractions, decimals, and percentages.
